Pinhornified:PENANG FREE SCHOOL SPORTS DAY 2011(with updated photos)
Ever since I could remember , The annual school sports day has been an event that paramounts to a great event in my life.The reason is as a school Band member , its the day we get to show our stuff to the school and get loads of support for it.And by the time we reach form 5 it will be a poignant moment where it will be our last one and the juniors will sort of give us a farewell bye officially in duty.

As a band member I never got to experience of being an active sports house member. Since my posting at PFS (by the way I was an SXI band member-GO SAINTS GO)...I was always with the school band .
This year as the band is always on auto-pilot for the sports day from arranging the songs to choreographing(GREAT JOB Daniel n the Yik Surn n the Band)..

I decided to see the Sports day through the eyes of Pinhorn. Why I choose Pinhorn?
My buddy at school Pn Mani is an ardent fan of Pinhorn
...she has contributed three of her sons to the Blue house. And I also get to take loads of photos if I could join them.
And what an experience it was. The first thing I heard was Pinhorn wanted to do an Avatar theme in their house decor and an Avatar Mascot!..even doing a real life hero would be a toughie but creating a mascot from CGI based character made me feel right that I choose the right house and its alien based whom I adore them .(WE ARE BEING MONITORED by the ALiens GUYS BTW SOME ALIENS ARE ALREADY LIVING WITH US.IN FACT THERE ARE SOME ALREADY AT PFS-email me if u want more info)
That brings me up to the first character at Pinhorn, my buddy's son Captain (PH)Prakaash
He looked cool when he told me about the plans and he added that they are building tanks for the march past. I said ' U mean kereta kebal'..yes was the answer.
Err made from? .......bamboos... was the answer. Prakaash showed no sign of worriness because he kept mentioning he has a reputable guy nailing the concept
And now comes in the next character Quah Jit(QJ). Now Quah Jit reminded me of a professor going all out to get the experiment done. I could label him as the trouble shooter solver. All things can be solved and made better. That was the scenario he was giving.In fact I loved it when I saw the Captain and QJ around 6pm at the Scouts den fixing the frame for the tank. QJ was raving to me how he can make the tank canon swirl 360 and blah blah.i was impressed but it was just the Captain and QJ .Captain had already had a small plaster at his finger for cutting his fingers during the framing work of the bamboo. They need more manpower I thought and that's when I remembered Pn Mani mentioning about it earlier.
It was Wednesday then. Meanwhile Pn Mani was given the task to be the make up artist. Something which she has not done before. But as usual for me I was not worried for her...after my GTempurung I have seen what this mighty lady could do. But it was interesting to see her inquire from friends on how to paint and get the colours etc. There were lot s of brainstorming happening among the teachers and students of Pinhorn. Pn Ratnamala ,En Zambri and Mani were discussing on how to get the dream theme achievable!
Its Thursday after school,I could see the captain pondering whether Pinhorn could pull off the Avatars.
This time more Pinhorn members were around and they number more in number.I guess they too got excited with the theme this time. By then Pn Mani had the blue face colour and the hairs.The boys promised to do the tail. QJ and his bunch of boys were busy with the bamboos.I remembered seeing the F6 (R n A) girls helping out too.
And i was busy snapping as usual but even then I ended up helping Pn Mani make the hairs for the Avatar.The hair Pleads(or Jade in Tamil)..was greatly executed by Pn Mani.
I was so sure she must have had it when she was a student and should have been a long one.
Then it was was Kong Zhen.He was like a weapon technologist seriously working on the bow.he was quiet but with full attention on the bow and arrow he was creating.And the product was amazing.The bow could actually fire the arrows!It was 6pm and time to call it quits.We all headed back home.Captain looked needed a rest but still some tuition to attend at night. QJ was still mumbling on how to fix the bamboo etc.
Friday morning.Tents up! QJ and his team busyly moving bamboos across the field and nailing it on the tent.I saw how they use their scouts knowledge to do the knots on the bamboo.great stuff!
I went into the tent and saw Pn Ratnamala,Pn Mani and Zambri discussing.Pn Mani was now sewing .
she is a tailor now...boys around me fixing up the cloths.Some boys were fine tuning the tank under QJ supervision.It was interesting to note that the Captain was making sure that only the non runners did the heavy work.he made sure the participants dont get themselves worked out before the big day.The sun was at its fullest glory.it was blanketing the whole field with it’s ray.
I managed to grab lunch at Jones road and was back at school.Pn Mani with her hubby Mr Ashok went hunting for a shop that does helium balloon.After doing some hunting, people manage to tell them the location of the balloon shop.
Meanwhile me and Kishok head back to school. Kishok by the way is an ex Free , Ex Pinhorn and Pn Mani’s eldest son.
We reached back and QJ and his boys and girls were still working .As instructed by Pn Mani we brought the lunch she bought for them.
I thought the boys would be savagely hungry by then but they were more concentrated on getting the job done.QJ was talking on how to improve the structure of the bamboos.
I was helping to nail the ears of the Avatars.With the scissors and some imagination I managed to follow the design set by Pn Mani. It was 5pm.I have a date with my wife for tea.I had to leave.I said my byes but the team was still working.(later I heard that everyone was at the field till 730pm!and QJ stayed overnight.He saw somethings he claims...but seriously in Malaysia which school is not haunted?Ha ha
It was Saturday and we had the Larian Satu Malaysia in the morning.By the time it was over the time showed 1O am .I know it was back to business for Pinhorn team.Mani goes full swing.The Avatars were being created .They were painted blue.Henry and Durainesh gave Pn Mani a helping hand
.And the marchers also were equipped with machine guns..I mean toy ones of course.They look very excited for the march.
I must say the Avatars were amazing.I thought we have given the other houses run for their money.Impressive indeed.And I had an amazing time snapping the avatars.By then it was 2pm.The Sports started.I was at the ASTAKA watching my band boys getting ready and doing the march past.For the band its a very important day for them.For the seniors its their last sports day. Then followed by the houses.And I could see the blue AVATAR team .They won the best marching group.BRAVO!
At 430pm the band performed ,they were at their best.I could see the determination their eyes to give the best for the school .I was on my video capturing their performances
The Pinhorn were dejected later to find out they didnt make it for the best house decorated category .Sirajuddin which has been winning for years did it again .
After a nerve wrecking tarik tali which pinhorn lost to cheeseman..all came to an end.The usual hip hip hooray and the announcement of the break on Monday I was relieved that day was over.It had been a gruelling week for all those involved from the boys to the teachers involved .
Amid all this , I saw a true sportmanship behaviour from our Frees boys.When the best sportsman for the day was announced a dejected boy broke down in despair...and then two boys form different house that is the Captain Prakaash and Vashistan from Cheeseman ran to the boy and consoled him .Amid the different houses the unity was electrifying.I could sense a great sportmanship in them.I forecast a great future for them where they would excel in a greater sport than here at PFS.All the best to them.
It was 6pm , we started clearing the tent.I noticed cars were whizzing pass us in the field carrying things back.That’s when I realised that cars could be driven straight into our school field.At first only a few students were around and then by 630pm everyone was giving a hand.I remember seeing Suresh doing a balancing act with the bamboos he was carting away to the scouts den. By the time we cleared it was night.Pn Mani’s UNSER was needed to transfer some of the things back to the KH block.She drove the UNSER into the field!For a moment it looked like a spaceship floating on the field looking for the two missing Avatars sent in to scout earth!..
We carted the things and dropped it off at the KH block.Mr Zambri was elated and glad he had a great Pinhorn team and I was glad I managed a small role in it.It was great to see the Captain giving Mr Zambry a hug on a job well done.As for me my buddy has done it again..she has taken me on an adventure of seeing the school sports day on a different angle and what a great adventure it was!Thanks Mani!
As i was driving back what I learned was the amazing things when we have teamwork.Impossibles becomes possibles.Unimaginable becomes imaginable.Unreachable becomes reachable.Undiscoverable becomes discovered.Bonds become stronger.Even injustices though painful can be made forgotten because of the good time shared and we know where we stand.A united team might have a wounded heart for a brief moment but the unity heals it and changes it into a braveheart.To all the BraveHearted Pinhorn members and Teachers -BRAVO PINHORN!

wow. fantastic overview of pfs sports day wic sadli i missed, first time in 10 years. even more fantastic pics. And so lovely to see the pfs family bond. keep it going. We have great teachers here.
